ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

We recommend maintaining the following water parameters using an FAS-DPD test kit such as the Taylor K-2006.

Chlorine

Recommended Level: 2-4ppm
To raise chlorine levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using sodium hypochlorite. To maintain chlorine levels outdoors in a slow dissolving manner, we recommend using trichloro-s-triazinetrione.

pH

Recommended Level: 7.4-7.6
To raise pH levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using soda ash. To decrease pH levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using muriatic acid.

Alkalinity

Recommended Level: 80-120ppm
To raise alkalinity levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using sodium bicarbonate. To decrease alkalinity levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using muriatic acid to adjust the pH level to 7.0 until desired alkalinity levels are achieved.

Calcium Hardness

Recommended Level: 200-400ppm
To raise calcium hardness levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using calcium chloride. To decrease calcium hardness levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend partially draining swimming pool water and refilling with fresh water.

Cyanuric Acid

Recommended Level: 30-50ppm, Salt Pools: 70-80ppm, Indoor Pools: 0ppm
To raise cyanuric acid levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using cyanuric acid. To decrease cyanuric acid levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend partially draining swimming pool water and refilling with fresh water.

Salt

Recommended Level: 3,400ppm
To raise salt levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend using sodium chloride. To decrease salt levels in a residential or commercial swimming pool, we recommend partially draining swimming pool water and refilling with fresh water.
